History Of The Dogfish Tackle Company
This is the history behind the "Dogfish Tackle Company". In 1984, I retired
and moved to Florida from Wisconsin. I enjoyed fishing and became a "regular" at the Redington Long
Pier. I don't recall how, but my friends nicknamed me "Dogfish Bob". I have carried that nickname
ever since. My love for fishing opened some doors and I began selling fishing supplies at the Wagon Wheel Flea Market
on the weekends.
Wanting something more, I decided to open a premium tackle outlet. I needed a
name so I decided to share what was given to me by my friends, "Dogfish". Thus, "The
Dogfish Tackle Company" was born in 1985. This tackle center was located near the Welch Causeway in Madeira
Beach. It did not take long for the "Dogfish Tackle Company" to outgrow the walls of this location.
Thinking of my customers and wanting to offer them a larger variety of tackle I needed a better facility. So in
1988, I moved my dream to Redington Shores. Oddly enough across from the pier where the name
"Dogfish" originated. Now the "Dogfish Tackle Company" facility has over 4,000 square feet of
display area. A rod and reel selection that is the finest on the west coast.
With over 3,000 assorted rods and a 100 different reels on display, The "Dogfish Tackle
Company" is truly a fisherman's paradise.

Each custom rod is painstakingly
crafted, by hand, to meet your exact fishing
needs. Every blank is individually spined to insure proper deflection as well as guarantee you fight the
fish and not the rod. We test cast each rod to ensure the proper guide spacing, this process allows for
maximum casting distance. We also make sure that the line does not touch the blank when under stress.
We under and over wrap each guide protecting the blank from being damaged by the metal guide foot.
Mass-produced rods are sometimes created
with inadequate blanks and too few guides, leaving the customer with a rod of secondary standards. It is only after a
