10-15% increase in output!

 When the engine combustion air is cold and therefore more dense, it contains more oxygen, which allows the combustion of the fuel to take place more efficiently. If the engine can draw its combustion air directly from outside, the performance of the engine will improve considerably, compared with having to draw its air from the - warm - engine room.

 The power rating of a modern marine diesel engine is mostly determined by 3 major permanent factors: air pressure of 100 kPa, air temperature of 300 Kelvin(K) (81F) and atmospheric humidity of 60%. If the air temperature is increased from 80F to 150F (338 K), the following formula applies:

273 K + 27C (80F) = 300 K
273 K + 65C (150F) = 338 K

300 K/338 K x 100% = 88.7%

In other words: roughly speaking, the power of the engine is reduced by approximately 11% if the combustion air is not supplied from outside but from the engine room instead. Should the ambient temperature in the engine room rise to 167F, the efficiency reduction will be 13.8%.

Installation
Each engine requires only one air intake opening from outside and the installation of the complete unit is easy to perform. Hose connectors with mounting flange may be supplied as an option. An air ducting hose (2), 6" or 7" internal and a few hose clamps (all to be ordered separately), will complete the installation.

Type MOFI 100 Air Intake Box

Description
The VETUS air intake box, type MOFI 100, consists of a louvered aluminum air intake port (to be ordered separately) to the outside of the hull and a watertight plastic box with hose connector to the inside (1). Inside this "dorade box"is as plastic filter which is impermeable to rain or water droplets and prevents coarse dirt from entering the air inlet line as well.

Extraction Ventilator Type VENT178
for large engines

Available for 12 Volt (8 Amp.) or 24 Volt (4 Amp.) installations
Capacity: approx. 420 cu. ft air displacement per minute.
Suitable for bulkhead mounting and for receiving 7" (internal) air ducting hose.

 Any engine in operation radiates a great deal of heat, which must be extracted, so as to keep the ambient temperature of the engine room as low as possible. Given a maximum outside air temperature of 77F and a maximum temperature in the engine room of 158F, this VETUS extraction ventilator, type VENT 178, is capable of keeping the ambient temperature in the engine room to an acceptable level when one or two engines of total output 150 kW (200 HP) are fitted. Should the engine(s) be more powerful, two or more extraction ventilators must be installed, to ensure sufficient ventilation.

Warning
 Except when the engines are at rest, these VETUS extraction ventilators should not be used when the engine(s) derive their combustion air from the engine room. In this situation the suction power of the engine(s) could burn out the ventilator. Naturally, also a provision for taking in the ventilation air for the engine should be made, preferably on the opposite side of the engine room. We recommend one louvered aluminum air intake port type 60 (or 2 ports of type 30) for each ventilator type VENT 178.
