REASONS WHY VESSEL DONATIONS WORK
A Vessel donation is an immediate action and generally requires only a few hours to complete the entire transfer of ownership and possession. All financial responsibilities for any and all cost connected with the vessel are paid for by the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary including brokers fees, yard bills, insurance, dockage, maintenance, and occasionally paying off any existing loan balances.
Partial gifts and or "Bargain Sale Donations" are eagerly considered when a donor both sells a percentage of a vessel for cash consideration as well as donates a percentage for tax consideration purposes.
Just Think About It!! No haggling over price, condition, or repairs. Your vessel will no longer be tied up for 30 days at a time at the mercy of potential buyers. Eliminate, time consuming and costly hauling, survey, and sea trial contingency's which could result in additional devaluation of your vessel.
How Much Can I Deduct? A donor can deduct up to 50% of his adjusted annual gross income. Then continue to carry tax credit balances for an additional five years, if necessary. In some instances when a corporate owned vessels are involved, tax benefits may offset capital gains and offer additional tax relief where needed.
The Value Of Your Donation. Expert Marine surveyors are required to determine a fair market value of your vessel. When you donate, it is not uncommon that a "low time", quality vessel, loaded with options and equipment to far exceed "printed Book Value". In almost all cases the appraised value of a vessel being considered for donation will obtain the highest possible value. This will be much higher that a vessel being sold in a distressed or emergency fast cash sale.
There are a number of qualified and respected marine surveyors available from which you could choose. In the event you donate your vessel to Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary, we will be happy to reimburse this expense.
