New Entry Level Marine VHF Handheld Offers Submersible, Icom Performance
Bellevue, WA - ICOM America announces the new M32, a 5-watt marine VHF handheld, built extra tough and ultra-simple to use even without an instruction manual.
The M32 offers a rugged, one-piece, die-cast aluminum chassis and an ultra-durable polycarbonate case. It FEELS right in the hand. This radio is rugged enough to pass military specifications and it does. A long-lasting, powerful 5 watt rechargeable Ni-Cd battery slips up inside the radio case and locks firmly into place, offering a waterproof seal. Of course, a charger comes with the M32, and there are several charging options, from an optional AA alkaline tray to a desktop rapid charger.
Even with its low price point, the M32 still carries many of the features that boaters have come to expect from Icom, like: our one-touch channel selection TAG scanning; one-touch channel 9 and 16 selection; normal/priority scan selections; and dual/tri watch. Theres even a self-check diagnostic feature. The screw-on rubber antenna may be removed so an external connection to your ship or boat's marine VHF fixed-mount antenna for extra extended range at any power level.
The M32 is so rugged and easy to use its kid-friendly. The large LCD is one of the biggest on the market. With the backlighting turned on, channel numbers and other display indications (like the 4-level remaining power indicator) are easy to see, day or night. The generously-sized keypad is also backlit, and settings may be locked by the radio user to prevent accidental channel changing.
Above the large LCD display is the extremely loud waterproof speaker. Both the speaker and the entire radio may be submerged in 3 feet of water for 30 minutes without damage to the radio (also known as a JIS-7 waterproof rating). This means an accidental submersion when you jump out of the dingy into water deeper than you had anticipated will not make your M32 fail. In fact, we recommend that after a day out on the salt water, you rinse the radio off by rinsing it off or submersing it in a pail of clear water.
Of course, all U.S., Canadian and International channels are built-in, and theres easy access to weather channels to monitor for impending storms or national crisis reports.
A sturdy belt clip comes standard.
